High Adventure Camp

August 5, 2021: Josh, Versii, Kaden and his friend Gabe, were up early to meet at the church by 6 am, to leave for the Young Men's High Adventure Campout.  They drove about 5 hours up into Northern Washington to hike the Olympic Peninsula.
Above L to R: Gabe, Kaden, Versii and Jeremiah.

Josh said a lot of the hike was up steep hills and on trails along the edge of cliffs with no railings.  So we were especially blessed that Paxton tripped close to home, versus on high adventure, as his injuries could have been much much worse.

While on the beach, they found a bunch of buoys that had washed up on shore.  The adults started a competition to see who could throw the buoy the farthest down the beach.  Josh has a competitive streak and he figured if he spun around he could gain more momentum and throw his buoy farthest.  He had the tip of his finger in the hole where the rope would go, mid spin his finger cracked and he lost hold of the buoy, which flew straight toward Lewis and hit him right on the cheek!  All the leaders claimed that the buoy was not cracked before it hit Lewis and they even tried to throw a buoy as hard as they could at a rock and could not get it to crack.  ****Luckily Lewis didn't get a concussion and was doing alright.  His Dad had him checked out after he got home and other than being very sore, amazingly he was blessed to not have broken any bones in his face.  After that there was some jokes made in camp saying "You better behave or the Buoy Man will get you!"

Josh broke his finger, you can see the swelling in the picture.

The boys camped right on the beach.  Their gear came home full of sand.

The boys came home tired and exhausted, (those packs were heavy) but they said it was a great time!  They said it was a tough hike, but filled with lasting memories and spiritual upliftment.
