Wednesday, Josh called from work and told me he booked tickets to fly out the next night, Thursday, to go to California for the weekend. So I had about a day and a half to make arrangements for our cat, notify the schools, find a ride to the airport and pack, on top of our usual Wednesday mayhem of early release, Cub Scouts for Versii (who is now a Webelo), Cub Scouts for Paxton (who is now a Wolf) Bear Scouts for me (that I'm in charge of) and Young Men's for Kaden (up at the church) and Josh is Young Men's Leader of the 12-13 year old boys (which Josh had planned their activity at our home that night). So needless to say, Wednesday was crazy and for the first time, all 5 of us were going to different activities almost all at the same time. I even checked into our flight from the trail where I was with the Bear Scouts doing our trail clean-up service project.
Here are my Bear Scouts finishing up our Trail Clean-up.
And here are the Deacons, eating pizza and getting ready to play games at our place Wednesday night.
June 1, 2017: Our good friend Annalei was kind enough to come pick us up and drive us to the airport in the middle of rush hour traffic. You are a gem Annalei! Then we boarded our flight to L.A.
After we arrived and found out how expensive a Lyft from L.A. airport would be, we hopped a shuttle to the rental car lot to find a car. Everything in L.A. is busier and more crowded. I think we waited in the rental car line for at least 45 minutes. When we finally got our car, we stopped at In & Out Burger for a late-night dinner and then headed for our hotel.
June 2, 2017: We woke up early to go pick up the minivan we bought in California...yes, we came to the realization that with 3 growing boys, a minivan would fit our travel needs best! It's a 2015 Toyota Sienna. After we picked it up, we drove it straight over to the Toyota Service department for an alignment and over-all check-up. And then we drove over to Disneyland.
The boys on the tram into Disney.
This was our first family trip to Disneyland as well as Versii and Paxton's first time. Kaden went to Disneyland when he was young.
Versii said Autotopia was his favorite ride.
I think he really enjoyed the fact that he could run the car himself.
I wanted to go on "It's a Small World" ride because it reminds me of childhood trips to Disney. Although the boys did not like it at all. They all said, "Don't ever take us on that ride ever again!"
The lines were so long at Disneyland and their "fast pass" system is not great. So we ended up only going on 6 rides at Disney and 1 ride each at California Adventure. We went on "it's a small world", Autotopia, Star Tours, The Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Indiana Jones.
Waiting in the hour and a half line to go on the new Guardian's of the Galaxy ride in California Adventure. Versii started getting nervous about the ride as we got closer to the building and changed his mind about going. So while Josh, Kaden and Paxton went on that ride, Verii and I went over to Soaring the World...which we both really enjoyed!
Kaden, Josh and Paxton finished up their ride just after we did, and they said it was awesome!
We saved Indiana Jones for our last ride of the day and it was fun! Then we had to leave the park around 7pm, so we could go pick up the van before Toyota closed and return the rental car.
We had fun at Disneyland, but I'm not sure I'd go there again unless it was the off-season or they figure out a better "fast-pass" system.
