November Highlights

November 9, 2022: Josh testing out flying, with Jeff Barnson.
November 15th: Any sunny day, Tux will ring the bells constantly to go out and when you let him outside, he runs right to the couch to sit in the sun.  He loves to be warm.  His favorite spots are laying under the kitchen sink when the heater is blasting, snuggled under the covers or basking in the sun.
Cerin snuggled up on Kaden's bed.
November 16th: Kaden's P day.  Both of us showing off our Quetzales. Guatemalan money.
I only had some because my brothers and Grandma wanted to send Kaden some money in the mission.
Kaden said that he didn't really have a good place to exchange American money for quetzales, so it would be best if we could send money in his currency.  So I called the money exchange at the airport and they ordered up Quetzales, which we sent over to Kaden using a package service where they personally fly into Guatemala with your packages in their checked baggage and then drive it straight to the mission home.  So I knew it would be a safe way to send him cash.
November 18th: Elder Owens.
Reminder that I keep a blog of all his mission letters and the pictures he sends at:

November 24th: Our first time hosting the family Thanksgiving dinner at our house.
Which means my first time cooking a turkey!  It was quite the experience and it reminded me of that time I dressed the dead body of a woman who was a stranger.  Anyway, I found the whole turkey prepping experience to be pretty disgusting and a little traumatizing, but I survived.  I brined it the night before, drained and rinsed the brine off Thanksgiving morning.  Then I had to reach my hands inside to separate the skin from the breast, so I could then shove 2 cubes of softened, seasoned butter inside between the skin and the breast.  I stuffed the turkey cavity full of sliced onion and lemons and then rubbed seasoning all over the top and placed it inside a oven bag to cook.
I turned out perfectly, golden brown and so moist.
We were so excited to eat it, that I forgot to take a pictures of the cooked turkey.  I didn't remember until we had almost devoured it all LOL!

Versii and Paxton

Tux, our little Thanksgiving birthday boy.  It was his 2nd birthday this year!
Here he is patiently waiting for a taste of Thanksgiving dinner.
Brandon and Katie.

My sister Julie flew into town on Thanksgiving evening and stayed through the weekend!
Us with our sister-in-laws and our nephew's girlfriend, Kristina.

My siblings, just missing our oldest brother Darren.
Some cute table decorations I picked up from Hobby Lobby.
November 25th: The boys watching a movie in our room.
November 27th: Khaleesi cuddled up in the living room chair.
The tree all decorated for Christmas.
November 29th: Julie ordered us a Christmas ornament of a Boston Terrier for our tree.

New Car

October 24, 2022: We decided to sell the van and get a new car for me to drive.
October 29th: We decided to go with the 2023 KIA Sorento Hybrid.
It has some fun features, including a heated steering wheel, and heated back seats, lane assist, and all the cameras...backup, side views and 3d view around the whole car.  There were so many things I loved about the minivan, so I figured the Sorento was the perfect transition car for me.  Like the van, it allows me to sit a little higher on the road, it has a 3rd row seat, so I can drive 6 people (the van held 7) and the hatch back with folding seats allows me to sit haul big things.  And I'm happy that it's blue.

Halloween 2022

October 24, 2022
The boys desperately wanted to carve pumpkins.

October 27th:
Versii wanted to dress up for Halloween, but wasn't sure what he wanted to be.
So we went to the Halloween store and he eventually settled on Batman!
He got this mask and wore it while he drove us home, speaking in the Bat voice the whole way.
He kept me laughing.

"I'm the Batman"
When we came home, Versii convinced his friend, Logan, to put on the old joker costume for fun!

October 29th: Our ward Trunk or Treat.
And the unexpected surprise of the night: I won the Chili Cook-off!
I was shocked when long time winner Derek Huckvale was announced as the 2nd place winner and then they said, "First place goes to the Owens!"  What?!
The missionaries were the judges and Josh joked that I was priming them for the win, when we had them over for homemade chicken enchiladas just the week before.
The chili I made was a White Bean Chicken Chili and the ingredients were very similar to my chicken enchiladas, so there was definitely a familiar taste to it LOL!
Paxton as a "Ring Wraith" from the Lord of the Rings
The same night as Trunk or Treat, was Homecoming Dance at the high school.
Versii and Logan arriving "stag" to the dance.
October 31st: Versii planned to hang out with a group of friends and decided that he wanted to morph from Batman into Bruce Wayne part-way through the night.
Paxton getting ready to go out Trick or Treating with his friend Rafik.
Pax might have come back with the biggest haul ever, including a full pack of Oreos and multiple full sized candy bars.
And the bonus, it was transfers week in Kaden's mission, so we were able to talk to him for a few minutes on Halloween.
