Hearst Castle!

April 7, 2023: Visiting Hearst Castle.
The driveway wind so far up the hill that they drive everyone up via shuttle.

A beautiful orange tree and you climb the stairs to the terrace.

The outdoor pool. Mr. Hearst had suits on hand for everyone to use when they visited, so we were told, if you were visiting the castle and wanted to go for a swim, you would enter the changing rooms at the pool, where you would change into a wool one piece swimming suit to swim.

This is just one of 3 guest cottages on the property.

Hearst Castle.
Apparently, Mr. Hearst, was obsessed with Cathedrals and had the castle designed to look like a cathedral.

The main entrance.

The backdoor entrance that leads to a staircase and the living room.
The living room.

The dining room.
We were told that the set designers from Harry Potter came to Hearst Castle for inspiration and used the same elements in their design, which is why, if you are a fan of Harry Potter, you would see the similarities.

The billiard's room.  During that time, usually just men would retire to the billiard's room after dinner, but Mr. Hearst invited both men and women to enjoy time playing or talking in the room before they would be shown to the theatre room for a late night movie.

The theatre room.

The tennis courts on the roof of the indoor pool.
The grand indoor pool, with gold leafing on the tiles.

We had such a grand time touring Hearst Castle, but there are 5 different tours you can take, that break the castle up into different sections.  On our tour, we got to see the grounds, the outdoor pool, the living room, dining room, billiard's room, the theatre and the indoor pool.  If you want to see other parts of the main house, like the library or bedrooms, those are a different tour.  There is also a tour to visit the guest houses and an art tour.  We all decided it would be fun to see more of the castle, but we did not have time this trip.  Definitely a remarkable work of architecture and craftsmanship.
