PR Day 2: Castillo San Cristobal

November 5, 2021:
After we went to El Morro and the cemetery, we had lunch at the above pictured Mexican restaurant.
We should have checked Yelp first, but we happened to be walking by and we had such great luck with the pizza place we stubbled upon, so we decided to try it.
The waitress was not friendly, they had music playing loudly from a boombox right next to our table, and the food was just ok at best.  We ordered chicken enchiladas to share, the menu said it came with salsa, chips, beans, sour cream and guacamole.  It did come with all of those things, and this was the one place I did not photograph the food, but I wish I did.  When our plate arrived, it had flat quarter-sized amounts of beans, sour cream and guacamole on the side of the plate with a chip perched on top of each dollop.  We were disappointed and the food had practically no flavor...but it provided protein so we decided it would have to suffice.
After lunch, we walked through the city blocks to Castillo San Cristobal, another fort on the island.

Castillo San Cristobal.

I thought these arched ceilings and walkways were so beautiful.

The sleeping accommodations were the same as at El Morro, but this room had a small staircase that seemingly climbed to nowhere.

A circular staircase that seemed to keep going and going, especially since we knew we were only climbing up on floor.  But the views of San Juan from the top were spectacular!
That's the Capital building in the middle left.

You can see El Morro in the far distance.
They are both within walking distance of each other and the admission cost gets you in to both forts.
The kitchen.

The Capital.
Here's a video montage of exploring Old San Juan.
After spending the day exploring Old San Juan, we went back to our Airbnb, changed into our swimsuits and walked down through town to find some desserts.
We went to Sweet Ann Cakes and Panaderia Espana, both in Carolina.
The box on the left contains the desserts we picked our at Sweet Ann Cakes:
2 fruit tarts, 1 chocolate covered strawberry, 1 creme brulee eclair and a chocolate cake roll.
On the right, from Panaderia Espana, we picked a coconut ball and a giant meringue.
Our plan was to pick up the desserts and go enjoy them while sitting on the beach.
Only when we got to the beach and sat down, within 5 minutes we kept getting stung by they tiny black bugs, which we have decided were sand fleas.  They ate us alive!  I had some many bites from just 5 minutes.  So we hurried and boxed our desserts back up, sealed them in the bag and ran into the ocean.
It was beautiful on the beach in the evening, we just don't recommend lounging on the beach in the evening, as we later read that the sand fleas come out in the morning and the evening.

After we spent some time enjoying the warm waters of the ocean, we walked back home, showered and watched a movie.
