August 30: The night of my birthday, we found out that Norman Smith passed away.
While we were in Texas, we were informed that Norm was in the hospital and that he was not doing well. He had developed dementia and he been declining in health. He apparently had not been eating and not sleeping. Josh was able to change his plane ticket on the end of our trip and instead of flying home to Portland, he flew to Salt Lake to see Norm in the hospital before he passed.
Josh will forever be grateful for those lasts moments with Norm and for the life lessons, memories, adventures, wisdom and influence he provided. Josh lived with Norm for a while during his teen years and Norm was like a father to him.
I took this picture of Norm a number of years ago when we were at his home in Saint George, he had wanted some nice pictures because he was thinking about internet dating. We had a great time taking photos that day.
